Another successful session today. It was lovely to see 20 participants with their carers. Lisa welcomed everyone and also welcomed a new member today – Ray with his daughter. Ian our music entertainer always likes to join early to say hello to all the members and it was lovely today to see Ian’s puppy Sonny who has recently had all his injections. Members were very happy to see the puppy and look forward to seeing him one day in the near future to be able to stroke him.

As usual Ian provided some great music entertainment of the 70s and 80s which everyone enjoyed. Ian also played a song specially for Jon one of our members who recently celebrated his 73rd birthday. Many happy returns Jon.

Eon Walters our ‘Mr Motivator’ then followed with chair exercises that got members working top to toe.

Lisa then read out 2 jokes and followed with calling out the Bingo numbers. Our winner for this session today was Joan. Well done Joan.

A big thank you to our technical engineer who was having a few extra problems today but managed to keep the session going.

We had 24 participants today with their carers and families. Lisa welcomed everyone and gave a special welcome to Sylvia as her husband Pantelis recently passed away.

Lisa gave a few updates and then introduced James Le Bec who was ready and waiting. James sang a few old time songs today and then followed on with his music quiz. Members always enjoy the music quiz and James makes it fun and challenging.

The session then followed with Richard Kravetz with his chair Yoga exercises. Everyone always concentrate and follow all the movements well. Richard has a way of making you work hard without realising which is great. Richard then follows on with his quiz which everyone enjoys.

Thank you both James and Richard. Mark then showed members a funny short video which everyone enjoyed watching and then Lisa called out the Bingo numbers. This is now a new game as the first game was won by Joan at the last session. Muriel was the winner today. Well done Muriel.

We had 19 members today plus their carers joining the session. It’s lovely to see members starting to join from 2.30pm as this is a time for them to have a chat together.

Ian James our music entertainer is also tuned in early as he also likes to say hello to members which I think is really lovely. Members in fact asked Ian if they could see his new puppy again this week but his puppy had to go to the vets for a few injections this week. Ian said he would definitely bring him next Monday. Everyone also wanted to know the puppy’s name and breed. Ian’s dog is a Miniature Schnauzer and his name is Sonny.

It’s also great to see Eon Walters our fitness motivator who also likes to engage with members before the session starts. At 3pm Lisa welcomed everyone and gave a few updates as usual. She first announced the good news with regards to her successful campaign over a number of years getting a bus to go to the Finchley Memorial Hospital. The 383 bus service will start from the 1st August. Members were delighted to hear this news.

Lisa also reminded everyone to make sure they were tuned in to the session on the 22nd July for the Magic Show with Alan Hudson. It was then time for Ian James to start his music entertainment which this week had a bit of a twist. He sang songs from various musicals and asked members to name the musical. Although members were all muted, Ian was very good at lip reading! Members really enjoyed Ian’s performance.

Our exercise motivator was then ready to start as soon as Ian finished and as usual gets everyone exercising hard and also provides tips on what to do as daily exercises. Everyone feels great after Eon’s exercises.

Lisa finished off today showing a funny short film of a man who is self-isolating during this lockdown. He knows his wife can hear him in the next room and he is talking to his friend about how he feels pretending that all is well but showing help signs to his friend. The bingo today was won by Joan and as this was Joan’s 3rd win, the charity will send her a gift. Well done Joan.

Lisa Rutter chairman of Dementia Club UK announced that TfL will be providing a bus service to Finchley Memorial Hospital, she said:

TfL confirmed to me today that a bus service to Finchley Memorial Hospital will be commencing as from the 1st August. This will be a temporary bus service extending the 383 bus from Woodside Park to the Finchley Memorial Hospital.

A consultation process later in the year is planned for the retention of the extension. This is welcoming news not only to staff and patients but also to all the local community who attend other services provided at the Finchley Memorial Hospital.

I know that this bus service is vital and know that many people will be looking forward to the extension becoming permanent."

A hot glorious Summers Day. We had 24 members today plus their carers and families. Lisa welcomed everyone and also welcomed new members Carole and her husband Ronnie.

Lisa also welcomed a visitor Danine Irwin who is doing a Masters in Dementia Studies at the University of Hull and has chosen Dementia Club UK for her University Assignment. Everyone gave a warm welcome to Danine and also our new members. Lisa then announced the Magic Show again with Alan Hudson on Wednesday 22nd July at 3pm and asked members to note this date in their diaries.

Sylvia one of our carers whose husband passed away recently was going to join the session today but she was still feeling very emotional. Her daughter asked me to announce the amount that was fundraised in memory of her dad Pantelis and also wanted me to thank everyone that contributed. Pantelis was a very gentle and lovable person. He touched everyone’s hearts and he will be missed.

Lisa then introduced James Le Bec our music entertainer who sang a variety of songs and followed with the famous music quiz which everyone enjoys.

The session then followed with Richard Kravetz who today showed us ways of cooling our breath to keep cool and then got us working all our muscles. Richard then ended his session with a quiz and the winners of the quiz with the most points were Pamela and Melvyn. Richard held up the virtual prize today which was a tape measure so that we could all practice the 1 metre rule.

Lisa then followed with her reading of a joke and then finally the Bingo numbers. Today’s Bingo winners were Sotiris, Joyce and Maria De Vito. Well done to our winners.

Thank you of course to our engineer Mark who kept everyone tuned in and the session ran smoothly.
