Our Wednesday dementia club at Finchley Memorial Hospital is always so full. Everyone always looks forward to coming. It was lovely warm day and Lisa announced that if the weather was warm again next week she would bring ice creams. Everyone cheered.

Lisa welcomed everyone and gave them the updates and details of the next outing to Southend on the 3rd July.

It was one of the members birthday a few days ago and Lisa surprised Sayeed who is 85 years old with a small birthday cake and candle and everyone sang happy birthday. Sayeed was very overwhelmed.

The session followed with a game of bingo and this time we played for full house. They enjoy playing bingo and the prize today was won by Peter and Dawn which was a colourful donkey. They were very pleased.

After the bingo, we did some singing with the song sheets and as Doris Day recently died, members wanted to sing Que Sera Sera first. The session then followed with Lisa doing some chair exercises with everyone and then the last part of the session was followed playing Tovertafel.

Everyone left with a smile. Thank you to our volunteers today Angela, Rosa and Mark our Trustee

It was good to see a few of our usual members today. This is a really lovely venue. Lisa welcomed everyone and provided some painting and colouring for them to do which they enjoyed doing whilst chatting and having their teas and cakes.

Although Lisa had no volunteers today, the carers step up to help with making teas. One of the members was very keen to do some exercises and was looking forward to seeing Richard our chair yoga instructor. Everyone always enjoys the exercises with Richard as he makes exercising fun.

The session then followed with James Le Bec and his music entertainment. James played some lovely music and a few of the members were up dancing. The quiz ‘name that tune’ is always great fun too and a challenge throwing the dice to get a six. It was an enjoyable session.

Thank you to Melissa and Bob, Danielle and Viv for helping setting up the tables and chairs and throughout the session.

Our monthly Dementia Club UK session was held on the 13th May at Sha’arei Tsedek Synagogue in Whetstone.

Our members were served tea, coffee and lovely biscuits and cake at the start of our session and were happy chatting to each other.

The lovely Jane engaged our members with fun exercises which they thoroughly enjoyed!

This was followed by a lively session of entertainment provided by the very talented James LeBec. James sang a variety of popular songs to which many of the members and helpers danced. He also did a music quiz and our members had to guess the name of the song! It was great fun! The atmosphere was fantastic! James announced that we had won April's Quiz of the Month!

He presented us with a box of Celebration chocolates which all the members ate! (and volunteers!) It was Stephen (one of our lovely volunteers) birthday at the weekend and we gave him a surprise birthday cake and sang 'Happy Birthday' to him. He was very chuffed!

After James left, the members continued to chat and there was also table tennis & darts for those that wanted to play! 24 members and carers attended the session with the assistance of five helpers from the synagogue who were:- Justine, Gilda, Stephen, Keith, Dot & Judy.

A very busy session today. Members arrived and sat chatting with their friends whilst enjoying their teas and coffees and cakes and doing a word search.

Lisa welcomed everyone and reported on recent events. Dr Angela gave a report about the May Day event which was a real success but also commented that Enfield Council had charged £2000 for closing a couple of roads and this has made many people angry as they could not understand why it cost so much to shut a residential road.

Lisa then talked about upcoming events which everyone noted. It was now time for some Bingo and everyone was concentrating hard on their boards. This was followed by singing and lots of dancing and Lisa’s exercises to music which everyone enjoyed. The last part of the session was playing with The Tovertafel which is. always great fun.

Big thank you to all the volunteers, Lizzy and Angela our new volunteer, Dr Angela one of our Trustees who came with Melissa who not only helped with the teas and coffees but also danced with a few of the members. Thank you also to Mark our Trustee who helped with the set up of the room. Everyone had a lovely time

As visitors and volunteers enjoyed tea and cakes whilst colouring in, session leader Danielle made a welcome, including updates of forthcoming events.

Mollie and June of Northwick Park Rotary were accompanied by Sandy from their Rotary Club on her first visit. Session leader Helen ran a general knowledge quiz, in which everyone was able to participate fully.

It was a pleasure to have Lisa our Chairman and Mark a Trustee to join us for the whole session and first time member Biddy, with her husband Tony and their carer Fatima.

Richard, as ever, ran a great chair yoga session and we all particularly enjoyed the Yoga Hokey Pokey, with Stanmore and Edgware Rotarians Anne and Margaret joining in.

Entertainer James led a TV and Film themed music quiz, in which Suresh excelled, and Joy and Mollie were first on the dance floor. Thanks to all the helpers and volunteers this week for making it such fun and to Dr Nandini for being on hand for any medical queries.
