Once again Lisa organised a wonderful outing this time to the Ruislip Lido for some 35 members of Dementia Club UK.
Awaiting for us was the 12 inch gauge miniature diesel train to take us through beautiful woodlands to the sandy Lido the only beach in London and our restaurant where we enjoyed a splendid lunch.
Then it was free time to explore or wander around the stunning views surrounding the Lake amongst the swans and ducks and locals walking their dogs or enjoy an ice cream.
Fittingly it was Donna and Brian’s 54th wedding anniversary which was celebrated with a cake in the restaurant.
After a pleasant day the train took us back to the coach. Every one was very friendly and got on with each other. With our thanks to Lisa and Mark.

One of our carers Sylvia who brings her husband to the dementia club decided to do an afternoon tea to raise money for Dementia Club UK.
A few members from the dementia club and other friends and families attended the afternoon tea which was organised and set up in Sylvia’s beautiful house in Totteridge.
It was a glorious sunny afternoon. As everyone arrived they were offered a Pimms.
There was so much food and cakes on the table kindly donated by M&S, Waitrose, Cake Create and Raphael’s. Some flower decorations were also kindly donated by Enchanted Floral Design. Casablanca Hire kindly donated all the tables, chairs, crockery and glassware.
Helen Tierney also attended and brought her harp. She played some lovely soft music for the whole afternoon which everyone enjoyed listening to. The afternoon sunshine also made it possible for everyone to enjoy the garden.
Alex made a speech to welcome everyone and introduced Lisa to also say a few words. It was a very successful afternoon which everyone really enjoyed.
I would like to thank the host Sylvia for kindly offering to use her house for this fundraising event. I also want to thank Alex her daughter and other family members for organising and working so hard to make this a successful event.
Alex will be attending the next Finchley Memorial Hospital dementia club on Wednesday 25th September to present a cheque to Dementia Club UK for the amount raised.

A smaller number of members today but still very enjoyable. Lisa welcomed everyone and gave out some new programs.
She kept members busy with 2 quizzes. One was an easy fun quiz and the other more challenging questions. Mark then gave out the answers to everyone.
It was then time for exercises with Eon and as usual Eon makes sure the chairs are set up properly and is prepared to give the group a really challenging and fun workout to music. Eon extended his time today and members also had fun using the colourful extendable ropes.
It was a great afternoon and everyone felt happy. Thank you to Kim from Stephen’s House for serving us tea and cakes today and thank you to Mark for all his help during the session.

This was our first session today in the new Barnet Copthall building. Lisa, Mark and Sandra a member of the GLL staff took members around to show the new complex. The members were very impressed especially with the 3 new swimming pools.
We all then settled in the Club Lounge which is an L shaped room which is directly opposite the lifts and next to the Gym on the first floor. Members enjoyed their teas and cakes and then it was time for some exercise. As Annalisa was away another instructor called Sandra took the exercise session. She was great with the members as she made exercising fun.
It was then time for our music entertainer James Le Bec who as always gets everyone up and dancing. His name that tune with the dice is also a great hit with members as they get very excited throwing and trying to get a six. It was a very enjoyable session.

Today was even more busier than ever. Lisa welcomed everyone and kept everyone busy with word searches, crosswords and painting whilst also enjoying their teas/coffees and cakes.
We had a visitor today which everyone welcomed – The Revd Tristan Chapman, team Vicar of St Stephen’s, Bells Hill and St Mark’s, Barnet Vale.
Lisa then provided everyone with some updates informing them that the Waitrose Community Matters raised £468. Members were delighted to hear this news. A new programme was also given out to members which goes to the end of this year.
The session then followed with a game of Bingo which everyone enjoyed with great concentration. Revd Tristan in fact helped by calling out the numbers with me. He needed no microphone as his voice was very loud.
Lisa then did a True or False quiz about the human body which was very interesting as the questions raised some medical questions regarding vaccinations and the importance of having them. Our Doctor Angela was able to explain to members the full details of vaccinations.
It was then time for the Tovertafel and members were gathered around the table eager to play. The football game is very popular as members get very excited and enjoy the challenge playing against each other. Other games were also enjoyed especially the flowers and the fish swimming.
There was time for another quiz and this time Lisa read out questions with multiple choice answers. The quiz brought some memories for some with the war and Laurie one of our members told us of his experience and just before he was going to learn how to fly he caught Polio and was in hospital for months.
